Alternate to Express 1MX Shirts?

I love the fit/colors but the solid color shirts fade significantly after 1 wash or dry clean.

I felt bad assuming my dry cleaner just sucked (has 100 4-5 star reviews on yelp) - but after further research, it's definitely the shirts.

I'm willing to spend more (100 per shirt) for work. Can anyone recommend something of quality that won't fade so quickly?

Thanks!

Brooks Brothers extra slim fit

Even the Extra Slim Brooks Brothers shirts are not quite as slim as the 1MX Fitted (much less the 1MX Extra Slim) but they're still my favorite shirts.

I heard Brooks Brothers slim fits are still very billowy? What are your thoughts on this? I'm trying to find similar shirts as well.

I have two Express 1MX shirts and the color hasn't faded at all. Dunno what you're doing wrong.

level 2

It might be the colors. I had a deep blue 1MX shirt that faded with one wash, complete garbage. My friend's shirt did the same. I have two white striped ones that have survived many washes and are still used.

That's my experience. I have solid Red, Green, and Brown shirts. Had them all for a year+ and all three are still vibrant.

Maybe it is the dry-cleaning. I wash mine in cold water and dry and low heat... but that's really all my clothes that aren't dry-clean only.

A (really) cheap alternative can be had at H&M for 15 bucks. They come in a slim very well measured cut for ~$15. They look great and are very cheap so you can buy a few for your wardrobe.

I was at the mall just yesterday, and dropped $60 each on two shirts from Express, then came across virtually identical shirts at H&M for $15 each. The only difference I can tell is that Express has stiffer collars, but...I can use starch to get that effect if I want it, right?

Have you had any trouble with durability in your H&M shirts?

100 per shirt? That's quite the budget. Check out Charles Tyrwhitt.

You can easily get nice quality slim fit or tailored fit shirts from CT for way less than $100.

For $100 you can get decent made-to-measure shirts. Indochino has some for around that price point, decent quality and it's the best way to get a perfect fit.

They sold me on that complimentary measuring tape promotion a few months ago. Going to get a shirt from them soon.

At around $144 you can get Gitman Bros. Vintage basic oxfords, though I don't know if they're dressy enough for your use; it's a pretty classic Americana look, though the fit is easy enough to dress up or down, if you don't mind it being in oxford cloth.

Dockers and Land End Canvas both make a lot of solid-color shirts that you can usually find on sale/with free shipping. Mist if them are thicker fabric and are probably less dressy than a "dress shirt" per se, but you them to a tailor and you're probably getting them for a total of $50 a shirt? I can't speak to the longevity of the color, unfortunately.

Geoffrey Beene also sells solid-color dress shirts. They also have them "fitted" (which are sorta-slim) but the "fitted" color selection isn't nearly as wide. They sell it at Macy's.

I like LEC but their fits are all over the place. Drives me nuts.

Slim fit + jewel tone + high quality = Wolf vs. Goat.
